The first six light guns will be delivered by Nexter and its partner in Malaysia, ADS in November 2019 and deliveries of all 18 artillery pieces will be completed in February 2020.

“This contract is a new recognition of the Nexter Group’s expertise in the field of artillery and ammunition. This is an important success in our strategy to position our group as the leading artillery partner in Asia,” says Olivier Travert, Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of Nexter.

Malaysia is the seventh country to acquire the Nexter 105LG1, which is already operated by Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Belgium, Canada and Colombia.

Malaysia’s 105 LG1 systems will be assembled locally at the ADS Assembly facilities near Gemas, Negeri Sembilan and the Army will also receive long range ERG3 ammunition and Bacara Ballistic Computers.

The 105 LG1 is a 105mm gun that weighs only 1650 kg and is designed for intervention and rapid reaction forces.

It can be towed by a light vehicle, transported by an average helicopter (PUMA or Bell 212 type) or parachuted by a tactical transport aircraft (C130-Hercules type).

A crew of only 5 men is enough to operate the artillery gun which can fire rounds to ranges of up to 17km.

A 105 LG1 gun can be setup to fire in 30 seconds and shoot at a rate of at least 12 rounds per minute.
